Whether you are just driving through or are staying for the weekend in Waco, the Mayborn Museum Complex features both natural science and cultural history exhibits. Discover the unique fossils from this area, cultural significance of early settlers, and get hands-on in the kid-friendly Discovery Center. Find exhibits on geology, paleontology, archaeology, and natural history.
Explore Strecker’s Cabinets of Curiosities to see a tree cross-section and a humpback whale skull. On display, view a 28 foot long Pliosaur that was discovered nearby. Walk beside the unbelievably-large ancient sea turtle Protostega gigas found very close to Waco. Experience walk-in dioramas of a limestone cave, Texas forest and the Waco Mammoth Site Exhibit.
Just 6 miles away, the Waco Mammoth National Monument exhibit lets visitors experience what paleontologists saw firsthand by walking on glass above the fossil dig site. This monument displays original casts of the fossils from when 25 mammoths were caught in a flash flood near the Bosque River. Material removed from the Waco Mammoth National Monument are stored at the Mayborn Museum Complex. An educational film and interactive stations tell the story of the mammoths in Texas and the hidden clues from this extraordinary fossil find.
Discover more about early settlers in Texas, such as four types of 19th century homes: Indian Grass hut, Norwegian rock house, Comanche tipi, and early log home. The Historic Village along the Brazos River includes nine wood-frame buildings revealing a community in the 1890s.
Inspire young minds and get hands-on in the two-floors of Discovery Center exhibits. Kids can explore hidden colors within light, walk-on piano keys to make music, and experience walking beside Jurassic dinosaurs. Find fun exhibits including Play Waco, Light and Sound, Designer Den, Water and Bubbles, SpaceX, Energy, Back to the Jurassic Augmented Reality, Simple Machines, Pioneer, Tea Room, People of the World and Backyard Ecology. In the new Backyard Ecology exhibit, visitors will view live animals to learn creative play. Compare your strength to a boa constrictor, play on an interactive water table to learn about the Brazos River, and pretend to be a bee inside its honeycomb!
Adult tickets are $9, children ages 2-12 are $7.
Discounts: Children under 2 are free, senior 65+ discount.
