Deer Lake Cabins Ranch Resort
Mt. Vernon, Texas
When you can’t decide if you want to relax or play all day, this East Texas resort offers something for everyone. Deer Lake Cabins Ranch Resort, located 1.5 hours northeast of Dallas, is located on 800+ acres of a family-owned ranch among towering pine trees. This resort has 8 cabins set around two fish-stocked lakes and 7 ranch houses tucked into the woods to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. Perfect for family retreats, cabins sleep from 2 to 16 guests with all of the amenities of a home.
Relax and enjoy the complimentary recreational equipment including canoes, kayaks, pedal boats and paddle boards or free classes including a guided hike or roping lessons. The still water and shallow beach is perfect for kids learning to kayak for the first time.
Stop by and see the friendly goats and sheep, chickens, and horses. We fed the goats grapes and they were happy to see visitors.
If you are looking for adventure, Deer Lake Cabins Ranch Resort has activities for additional fees including guided hikes, lead line horseback rides for kids aged 2+, guided horseback rides for ages 8+, roping lessons, UTV tours or rental, hay rides, feeding the farm animals, Lil’ Explorers nature walk and nature craft class. Venture outside the resort for a guided boat tour on nearby Lake Cypress.
Many of the cabins have their own private dock for fishing, so just ask when you make reservations if you want a private dock or if want to make some new friends at a shared dock.
Special needs:
Some cabins are wheelchair accessible, call to see which cabins best fit your needs. Hay rides, pedal boats, boat tours, UTVs and horseback riding and feeding farm animals are great options to consider for all abilities.
Know before you go:
- Plan to book cabins several months in advance to get weekend availability, especially during summer months.
- A few cabins share a deck, so book a private deck or make some new friends.
- Avid bikers may want to bring their own trail bikes for over 15 miles of trails through the woods to explore. Bikes are available for rent.
- Fishing poles are available to rent, but you may want to bring your own if you have it. A local bait shop, Archie’s Bait Shop, is nearby for fishing gear and bait. Fishing licenses are not required since this is private property. If you venture to nearby Lake Cypress Springs, adults and youth age 17 and older will require a fishing license.
- Life vests are available, but you may want to bring your own if you have them.
- There are a few restaurants in Mt. Vernon, just about 10 minutes from the resort. Cabins have an outdoor grill if you want to bring groceries.
