Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo
Fort Worth, Texas
Since 1896, Texans have rustled to Fort Worth every January to see the livestock shows, horse shows, parade, museums, live music and entertainment, rodeos, fare food, and the midway rides for an experience like no other. Kick up your boots to experience the cowboy lifestyle at this legendary state fair and rodeo. Don’t miss this western heritage event from January 17 – February 8.
General admission for Adults is $12, Children ages 6-16 is $5, and children 5 and under are free. General admission includes access to the stock show grounds, but does not include rodeo admission. There is plenty for kids to do without going to the rodeo, but stay for a top-notch performance by the best cowboy and cowgirl athletes and amusing entertainment between rodeo events. Rodeo events include bull riding, saddle bronc, calf roping, team roping, bulldogging, barrel racing, barrel racing, bareback riding plus events with youth competitors including mutton busting and calf scramble.
The Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo kicks off the entertainment with a parade on Saturday, January 18 at 11 am. The parade includes over 2,000 horses and riders, marching bands, floats, and dignitaries. The parade is free, however tickets can be purchased in advance for visitors wanting a seat.
Livestock Shows are youth showing their well-trained and exceptionally groomed animals to compete for a blue ribbon. Livestock includes birds, goats, sheep, cows, pigs, rabbits, and sheep dogs and are led through the arena as judges choose the best in show. You can watch the individual shows (schedule available https://www.fwssr.com/events/livestock-show) or walk through the barns to get up close to the animals in pens. Watch the animals get their glamorous makeovers to see hairspray to make a cow’s tail as poofy as cotton candy or black shoe polish pedicures to darken hooves (but you won’t see lipstick on any pigs here).
The Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo makes this event extra kid-friendly by having a Mooseum Experience (3 museums included!), Milking Parlor, Petting Zoo and Pony Ride, Kids Gone Wild, Carnival Midway, Children’s Barnyard and Planet Agriculture. The general admission ticket includes free admission to three museums: Cattle Raisers Museum, National Cowgirl Museum and the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. The Milking Parlor offers daily presentations to show a live demonstration of milking a cow and how milk gets from the “cow to the cup.” Kids will love to pet and feed the animals ($2 for food) and pony rides ($5 per ride). Come see rabbits, llamas, wallaby, ducks, chickens, pygmy goats, porcupine, pot bellied pigs, mini cattle and more! Kids Gone Wild teaches conservation of habitat and wildlife, and activities include archery, fishing, air gun rife shooting, viewing hawks, falcons, snakes, turtles, and other reptiles, live quail and honey bee exhibits. Children’s Backyard is a nursery to see mother and baby calves, goats, piglets and lambs, and watch baby chicks hatch. Planet Agriculture demonstrates how farming and ranching affects our lives, and activities include leather crafting, hand-spinning wool and nutrition information.
The carnival midway features bright lights and exciting rides such as the Ferris Wheel and kid-friendly rides.
Don’t miss the free daily cattle drive (11:30 am and 4:00 pm daily) as you watch the Fort Worth Herd steers and their cowboy herders walk through the street.
Discounts: Senior citizens, military appreciation day, TCU and Dickies clothing discounts on particular days. Members of the Cattle Raisers Museum, National Cowgirl Museum or Fort Worth Museum of Science and History enjoy free admission to the stock show grounds (does not include rodeo admission).
