World's Littlest Skyscraper
Wichita Falls, Texas
The World’s Littlest Skyscraper in Wichita Falls is something you have to see to believe. During the oil boom in early 1900s, developer J.D. McMahon persuaded local investors to build a high-rise building to contend with larger cities. After the project was finished, closer review of the blueprints showed the dimensions were listed in inches instead of feet! Mr. McMahon left town with the investment money, and Wichita Falls was left with an embarrassingly small skyscraper.
The World’s Littlest Skyscraper, also known as the Newby-McMahon Building, is four stories tall, and 10 x 16 feet wide. At over 100 years old, this unique piece of history is known around the world as a tourist attraction, and the unique story behind this historical landmark adds to the spectacle of its creation.
